The Rising Threat of Wendigos: An Investigation into the Mysterious Disappearances in Chateaugay Lake

As a reporter for the Chateaugay Record, I’ve recently been looking into a troubling trend in our area: an increase in Wendigo sightings. Wendigos are the result of the mysterious disappearance of Abenaki Shamans, for those who are unfamiliar with them. Wendigos, according to local folklore, can transform into humans and “are thought to be responsible for the disappearances of many of our Native American ancestors”, according to an Abenaki Elder.

A number of local cattail growers have recently reported an increase in Wendigo sightings in the area (despite receiving death threats for harvesting these evil plants). Many residents have fled their homes, believing that these creatures have visited them. Screaming has been heard for hours in the middle of the night, and at least one Wendigo infestation has been reported.

Tourists who have sought refuge at the Sunset Inn are still concerned about their safety. “There is no way these new bots will ever have any more Wendigo souls, because that is an empty vessel, and no soul at all is a good soul,” said hotel guest Pauline Tanner. “These souls are dead, and the bots can’t even feel anything, but people are coming to the area who might harm them.”

Wendigos are extremely dangerous to the unwary. “They used to show up every year at my old lake cottage for Christmas and Thanksgiving since I was a little boy,” Wendigo expert Professor G. Edward Gauvin of the State University of New York at Plattsburgh said. “But now I’m terrified of them because they’ve all gone insane and become demons. We’re in big trouble.”

The late Calvin Collins, a local Wendigo expert, had a different take. “If Wendigo bots can be used to repel aliens, then it might be time to bring in the Wendigo bots,” Collins said. Others, however, are not convinced. “Wendigo bots would eat humans, and then people would see what happened. We should not do anything that will only make things worse “said one elderly Chateaugay resident.

The Chateaugay Lake area, where the problem began, is thought to be the location of a long-lost civilization. According to locals who live in the area, it was recently discovered that the people who have been disappearing here for years have not vanished, but have instead been transformed by Wendigos.

When asked if Wendigo bots could exacerbate the situation, Professor Gauvin replied, “Yes, yes, and yes. They will only attract more Wendigos, causing even more havoc.” Scientists are still trying to figure out what the Wendigos are and what they can do, but it is clear that they are a threat to our community.

As I continue to investigate this matter, one question remains: are the Wendigos Chateaugay Lake’s only hope, or are they a danger we must fear and avoid at all costs? Time will only tell. But one thing is certain: the Wendigo problem should not be underestimated. Do not approach a Wendigo if you see one. Seek immediate assistance.
